On April 20-21, 2023, the 5th China-Singapore (Chongqing) Connectivity Initiative Financial Summit was held simultaneously in Chongqing and Singapore. The summit was jointly organized by the Ministry of Commerce, the People’s Bank of China, the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission, the China Securities Regulatory Commission, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange, the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore, the Monetary Authority of Singapore, and the Chongqing Municipal Government. The theme of the summit was “New Mission of Financial Center, New Momentum of Financial Opening”. Through the summit platform, 90 key projects were signed with a total contract amount of 111 billion yuan, further enhancing the influence, competitiveness, driving force, vitality, and attractiveness of the summit.
At the signing ceremony of the key projects during the summit, the Global FinTech Institute (GFI) and the Chongqing China-Singapore Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity Think Tank (CCITT) signed a cooperation agreement. The two parties will establish a new mode of international, professional and regular training for China-Singapore financial technology talents. They will train financial technology talents for ASEAN countries and western regions of China, and help promote the construction of western financial centers and the development of financial technology in China’s western region.

Professor David Lee, Chairman of the GFI, believes that the institute’s collaboration with the Chongqing China-Singapore Demonstration Project Strategic Research Center on the promotion and implementation of the Certified FinTech Professional (CFtP) certificate program in western China and ASEAN countries is not only about empowering practitioners in the financial technology industry with knowledge. Their common goal is to cultivate composite talents for the emerging information technology industries such as financial technology, digitization, blockchain, and artificial intelligence in China and even the world, who possess industry ethics and the highest professional behavior standards. The new generation of financial technology talents must be rooted in Asia and portable worldwide. With this cooperation, they hope to cultivate a continuous stream of talent reserves for the industry’s development.

Mr. Han Deyun, Chairman of the CCITT, believes that Chongqing is the national leader in financial technology application, financial standard innovation construction, financial technology innovation regulation, and digital RMB pilot cities. It is accelerating the construction of the China-Singapore financial technology cooperation demonstration zone, the western financial center, and the development of financial technology in China’s western region. Therefore, it is timely for Chongqing and Singapore to work together to promote the training of China-Singapore financial technology talents.
