Global Fintech Institute and Grayscale to Convene “Privacy, Proof and the Regulatory Perimeter” During TOKEN2049 Singapore

30 September 2026, Singapore

The Global Fintech Institute (GFI) and Grayscale Investments will co-host “Privacy, Proof and the Regulatory Perimeter”, an official TOKEN2049 Singapore side event on Monday, 5 October 2026, bringing together leaders from the Zcash ecosystem, institutional investors, regulators, academics and digital asset operators for a focused discussion on privacy-preserving digital assets and financial regulation in Asia. The event is scheduled for 3:00pm to 6:00pm in Singapore, followed by networking. Registration is subject to approval, with the venue shared with confirmed guests.

TOKEN2049 Singapore takes place from 7–8 October 2026, with side events taking place throughout the surrounding week. GFI is convening the session as a Singapore-based non-profit think tank, with Grayscale as an exclusive co-host.

A Conversation on Privacy, Proof and Regulation

The panel brings together perspectives from across the privacy and digital-asset ecosystem.

Zooko Wilcox-O'Hearn, Founder of Zcash, will join Michelle Lai, Executive Chair of Sovright, Krista Lynch, Head of Trading and Capital Markets at Grayscale Investments, and Liz Steininger, Chief Executive Officer of Least Authority and a Global Fintech Institute Industry Fellow. Prof David Lee Kuo Chuen, Chairman of Global Fintech Institute, will moderate the discussion.

The discussion will focus on several practical questions at the intersection of privacy and financial regulation, including:

  • How financial privacy and regulatory accountability can coexist within the same system
  • The regulatory perimeter for privacy-preserving digital assets
  • Client confidentiality and supervisory traceability
  • Implications for institutional allocation and custody
  • Compliance considerations surrounding the deployment of privacy-preserving cryptography

The event description frames the discussion around the practical intersection of privacy, proof and regulatory accountability, rather than protocol design alone.

Privacy Technology Meets the Regulatory Perimeter

Privacy technology occupies an increasingly important and contested position in digital-asset markets.

Supervisors across Asia continue to emphasise traceability, sanctions screening and financial-crime controls, while financial institutions have obligations to protect the confidentiality of clients and counterparties. At the same time, privacy-preserving technologies have progressed from cryptographic research into deployed systems and institutional applications.

This creates a practical question for the financial sector: how can privacy and regulatory accountability be engineered into the same system?

The discussion will examine this question through the lens of institutional allocation, custody, compliance and operational practice, considering how privacy-preserving assets can interact with the requirements of regulated financial markets.

Insights Following the Discussion

Following the event, Global Fintech Institute will publish an insights report drawing on the discussion, with access available to GFI members and partners through the member portal.

The session is intended for institutional investors, regulators, academics and digital asset operators seeking to explore the evolving relationship between financial privacy, digital assets and regulatory oversight.

Registration is by approval, with the venue confirmed to registered guests.
